Please mark this as resolved. I figured out what the problem was. I had created a custom email containing the activation link but I faield to modify the link with the slug to the actual custom login page I created. The link was trying to go to the original wordpress login page which i had totally commented out to the point where it was blank. sorry to have wasted your time.
