How to Use File Upload field with Pie Register

With WordPress being the go-to tool for web development, especially for membership-based websites with backend Content Management Systems, the need for registration forms has become vital.

Depending on the type of form, you sometimes need to allow users to add attachments with the forms that are essential for the registration process. It helps you collect additional information from the users and learn more about them.

How to let Your Users Upload Files to your WordPress Registration Form?

Pie Register is a WordPress registration plugin that lets you build registration forms with advanced fields. Its File Upload Feature allows users to attach important files with the form while registering.

Users can add a file or a document, an image, or even a video with the registration form, as per the requirements. If your form has no file upload field, users will have to send those files through email separately. This will increase your form abandonment rate and will be a hassle for your business.

How to Use File Upload with Pie Register?

This tutorial will show how to add a File upload field in your WordPress registration forms using Pie Register.

Step 1

Let’s say you are building a data-collection form that requires the user to attach their Resume along with other personal details for a recruiting website. For this, you will add the File Upload Field that you can find under the Advanced Fields Tab.

Step 2

From the edit fields option, you can now customize the following:

  • Label: Name the field to let your users know what it is for.
  • File Type: To keep the registration form secure, you can restrict the file types. Just write the file types, each separated by a comma.

You can leave this box empty if you want to allow attachments to all types of files.

  • File Size (Premium): You can specify the maximum file size in KBs to restrict the size of the uploaded file.

If you don’t want to restrict the file size limit, you can leave this box empty.

  • Maximum File Uploads (Premium): Specify the number of files uploaded through a single field.

  • Drag & Drop Message (Premium): Add the message you want to be visible on the website interface.

  • Rules: Check the box to make the File Upload field as required.

You can also edit the Description, Validation message, CSS Class Name, and Show in Profile options.

Step 3

Save the settings, and let’s test the form.

*You can see the error message displayed when the user attaches a ‘png file’ because we restricted the File Type to just ‘pdf’ in our form settings.*

After the successful submission of the form, let us see how you can access the uploaded files and documents.

For Multiple Uploads

You can insert more than one File Upload field to your form to allow multiple file uploads on your registration form.

Premium Users are allowed to upload multiple files using a single field of File Upload.

How to Access Files Uploaded by the Users?

For Premium Users

If you are a Pie Register Premium user, all the files uploaded with the registration forms will be available under the Attachments Tab on your Pie Register’s Admin dashboard.

Admin can download the attachments individually or simultaneously using the ‘Download All User Documents’ button.

Users (Basic and Premium) can receive the files attached with other personal details through email by adding the Replacement Key for the File upload field in the email template.

Go to the Notifications Tab from your Pie Register Dashboard and select the Replacement Key from the Dropdown.
